The Security Guard Trainer / Field Training Specialist is responsible for improving the knowledge, professionalism, preparedness, and on-site performance of security personnel across assigned client locations. 

This is a hands-on, field-based position that requires regular visits to security sites to observe guards performing their duties, identify performance and knowledge gaps, and provide immediate coaching and spot training. The Trainer will ensure officers understand company policies, post orders, site-specific procedures, safety requirements, emergency protocols, and security best practices. 

The Trainer will also be responsible for developing, maintaining, and curating a relevant security training curriculum based on operational needs, client requirements, field observations, incident trends, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Conduct regular visits to assigned security sites to observe and assess officer performance. 

• Provide hands-on, on-the-job coaching and training to security officers and supervisors. 

• Conduct scheduled and unannounced spot-training sessions based on operational needs. 

• Identify knowledge, performance, professionalism, and procedural gaps and provide immediate corrective coaching. 

• Verify that officers understand their post orders, patrol responsibilities, emergency procedures, access-control requirements, reporting responsibilities, and client expectations. 

• Demonstrate proper security procedures and techniques in real-world site environments. 

• Reinforce professional appearance, communication, customer service, situational awareness, and appropriate security presence. 

• Work with supervisors and operations management to address recurring performance and training deficiencies. 

• Evaluate officer competency through field observations, practical exercises, and knowledge checks. 

• Conduct refresher and remedial training when deficiencies are identified. 

• Document training conducted and maintain accurate training and competency records. 

• Identify recurring trends across locations and recommend training or operational improvements. 

• Participate in post-incident reviews and develop training based on lessons learned. 

• Support site inspections, quality assurance reviews, audits, and compliance initiatives. 

• Assist with new-hire orientation and security officer training. 

• Ensure newly assigned officers receive appropriate site-specific instruction. 

• Support the development and training of supervisors and future security leaders. 

• Update reporting and post orders as needed to ensure highest quality service. 

Curriculum Development Responsibilities 

• Develop and maintain a comprehensive security officer training curriculum. 

• Create training modules, lesson plans, presentations, practical exercises, quizzes, job aids, and refresher materials. 

• Curate relevant training materials from company policies, client requirements, regulatory guidance, industry standards, incidents, audits, and field observations. 

• Develop site-specific training programs based on unique client environments, risks, and operational requirements. 

• Regularly review and update training materials to ensure content remains relevant and practical. 

• Convert lessons learned from incidents, near misses, audits, and operational deficiencies into targeted training. 

• Develop short roll-call or toolbox training modules that supervisors can deliver at individual security locations. 

• Maintain consistent company-wide training standards while allowing appropriate customization for specific client sites.

Qualifications 

• Prior experience in security operations, law enforcement, military security, loss prevention, public safety, or a related field. 

• Previous experience training, coaching, supervising, or developing security personnel strongly preferred. 

• Strong practical knowledge of security operations and security officer responsibilities. 

• Ability to evaluate employee performance objectively and provide clear, constructive coaching. 

• Strong presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal communication skills. 

• Strong written communication and documentation skills. 

• Ability to translate policies and procedures into practical, easy-to-understand training. 

• Strong organizational and time-management skills. 

• Ability to work independently and manage training responsibilities across multiple locations. 

• Ability to communicate effectively with security officers, supervisors, operations management, clients, and senior leadership. 

• Proficiency with standard business software used to develop presentations, training materials, reports, and training records. 

• Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly between assigned client locations. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience developing security training programs or curriculum. 

• Security instructor, trainer, or related professional certification. 

• Experience conducting security audits, inspections, or quality assurance reviews. 

• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS) or other training-tracking platforms. 

• First Aid/CPR/AED instructor certification. 

• Relevant state security guard trainer or instructor certifications, where applicable. 

Work Environment 

This is primarily a field-based position requiring frequent travel between client locations. The Trainer must be comfortable working in a variety of security environments and interacting with personnel across multiple shifts. 

The position may occasionally require evening, overnight, weekend, or other non-traditional hours in order to observe and train security personnel working those assignments.
