Job Description
Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and professional office environment for employees, visitors, and customers. This position performs routine cleaning, minor maintenance tasks, and assists with the general upkeep of the office building and surrounding property.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize offices, conference rooms, break rooms, restrooms, and common areas.
- Vacuum carpets, mop floors, sweep entrances, dust furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
- Empty trash and recycling receptacles and replace liners.
- Clean windows, glass doors, mirrors, and other glass surfaces.
- Replenish restroom and kitchen supplies, including soap, paper towels, toilet paper, coffee supplies, and other consumables.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchens, lunchrooms, and break areas.
- Monitor inventory of cleaning supplies and notify management when replenishment is needed.
- Perform seasonal cleaning tasks such as carpet shampooing, floor waxing, and deep cleaning as assigned.
- Complete minor maintenance tasks, including changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, and reporting building repair needs.
- Keep building entrances, sidewalks, and outdoor areas clean and free of debris.
- Assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings and company events.
- Follow all safety procedures when handling cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Secure the building by locking doors and turning off lights as required.
- Respond promptly to spills, safety hazards, and other custodial emergencies.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous custodial, janitorial, or building maintenance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, products, and equipment.
- Ability to operate vacuums, floor scrubbers, buffers, and other custodial equipment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Dependable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Physical Requirements
- Frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and reach.
- Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and work at varying heights when necessary.
- Ability to perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
- Work may involve exposure to cleaning chemicals and varying indoor and outdoor temperatures.
Work Environment
- Primarily works in an office building environment.
- May occasionally work outdoors to maintain entrances, sidewalks, and parking areas.
- Position may require evening, early morning, or weekend hours depending on business needs.
